   I don't think Bel was a new teacher when she wrote the book--I think she had   
   quite a bit of experience.   
      
   I was disappointed in the movie.  They made it rather artsy--with blurred and   
   focus changes, changed characters, and scenes not in the original book.   
      
   curious word usage--back then, "Administraive Assistants" was a new   
   educational job title for otherwise called "vice principals", as was McCabe.    
   But today, an Administrative Assistant is the new term for Secretary.  That   
   is, in today's school, Sadie    
   Finch would be the Adm Asst instead of 'Chief Clerk" and McCabe a vice   
   principal.   
      
   The book had virtually no subway references, other than McCabe announcing that   
   a claim of a fire on the BMT was false and not valid as a lateness excuse.   
      
   Nor did the book explain where Barrett got an apartment on a teacher's salarly.
