   Usually in NYC it's easy to transfer to a bus route because most times they   
   run pretty often.  But there are a number of routes that run only half-hourly,   
   or even less often.  Owl service can be surprisingly sparse for a city like   
   NY.  At least now they    
   publish schedules so one could have an approximiate idea when a bus is   
   supposed to show up.  (Also, sometimes a subway route can run only every 15-20   
   minutes, which can add up.)   
      
   When I used to attend the Hoboken Festival, I had a allow a great deal of time   
   to take PATH back to Newark due to long waits in PATH service on two trains.   
      
   In other cities, getting around can be a real pain if multiple buses are   
   required since so many bus routes in other places have infrequent service.     
   Connections are very difficult.  Westchester and Nausau Counties have a web of   
   bus routes, but a closer    
   look shows rather infrequent schedules.   
      
   While some of SEPTA's core routes have frequent service, many routes do not,   
   especially during offpeak hours and weekends or in the suburbs.   
      
   In my youth I had a three-vehicle commute.   The wait, in rush hour, for each   
   vehicle was at least ten minutes, so my trip time included a full half hour of   
   just waiting on the corner.  (Today that same routing would be worse.)
