From: dannyb@panix.com              I just bumped into a rail-truck (or whatever it's called). It's       a utlity vehicle that has standard rubber tyres on its axles,       but... also has a set of steel rail-wheels that can be lowered       onto a train track.              These are quite common in the railroad industry (the one       I saw was... don't swoon now... a Sperry Truck!).              Anyway, it jogged my memory of something that was suggested       about five, err, ten, err... more like 35 years ago       in NYC. They were going to adapt a couple of passenger       buses with a similar set of rail-wheels, and use the       something or another track for part of the trip to JFK.              Anyone recall if this moved anywhere past the back of       a press release and whether it was actually tried out?              Thanks              _____________________________________________________       Knowledge may be power, but communications is the key        dannyb@panix.com       [to foil spammers, my address has been double rot-13 encoded]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
