   Somewhere I read the Hudson tunnels had a 'door' on the NY side, built in WW   
   II.  One can see a large rectangular steel structure above the tunnel portal   
   that looks like it could be lowered over the tunnel entrances.  However, I've   
   never been able to    
   find out anything more about it.
