Even at Jay Street they were bringing in upgrades and I       suspect the new center all high tech. The Penna Station center is very high       tech.              Some years ago they had a tour of Jay Street. The original Pelham movie was       reasonably accurate in the radio consoles*. But the movie Command Center was       more spacious and attractive than the real life one, which was cramped and       narrow. (I think the        Jay St Bldg was envisioned to be bigger originally but cut back when finally       built, ref 'Subway Style').              It would be nice if they offered a tour of the new Command Center, but given       attitudes today, I'm not holding my breath. Indeed, the only reason they did       Penna Station was there was glassed-in balcony for visitors. At Jay St, we       were standing next to        the dispatchers handling their calls.              * The put the movie radio console set on display--it looked very cheap and       hokey compared to a real one. But on film it looked good. I guess it's the       lighting.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
