Hello,              I know that all most if not all the M1/1As have all gone out of revenue       service on MNRR and LIRR, but I have heard different stories about the       ultimate fate of some of them.              One story that I heard is that some of them wound up in Mexico for use       in passenger service as rail coaches. I don't know if that is true or       not as there is very little rail passenger service in the country,       though perhaps they could have found use in places like Mexico City or       Guadalajara for regional rail services?              I also heard that some of them underwent complete refurbishing and had       become DMUs elsewhere in North America, though I don't exactly know where.              Can anybody tell me if any of this is true or not? Are there any       pictures of them post-MNRR/LIRR?              Regarding the M2s, are any of them still operating? Is there a tentative       time for their retirement from revenue service? Also, are any of them       slated for any sort of post-MNRR service?              (They were good trains, the M2.)              What also is the fate of the M4 and M6? I had heard that the M6 is also       due for retirement soon, though this came as a surprise to me as they       are only about 20 years old. Surely, they would have another 10-15 years       left?              I did hear, however, that the M6s were full of technical problems.              Thanks in advance.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
