I came across a 1982 article by Avery Corman about growing up on the Grand   
   Concourse in the Bronx, and returning for a isit in 1988.  At that time he   
   found mixed conditions--some restored buildings, but many vacant lots and   
   abandoned buildings, too.   
      
   I also read Penny Marshall's memoir, and she grew up there, too.  She loved it.   
      
   In more recent times, I asked some folks about visiting the area today and   
   they recommended against it due to crime.   
      
   Would anyone have any observations about the area today?  Thanks.
