I never knew that the BMT had numbers even though I grew up from early
childhood riding the Canarsie Line into "the City", and the
Brighton/Sea Beach/West End/Fulton Street El to family gatherings and
of course the "subway excursions" with my dad - may he rest in peace.
We even rode the BMT's Lexington Avenue El on a regular basis while it
still was standing because he loved the "gate cars" and the multiple
   bell signals to the motorman.

I can certainly understand how someone who lived in the area where you
did would have minimal exposure to the BMT, the same as I never had
much to do with the Third Avenue El and Bronx portions of the IRT or
   IND until my college years.
