   The only time in many years I used the 42nd St. Shuttle, the train was the   
   Museum Train. The TO helped make some guesses about how it got there, given   
   how few opportunities there are for interchange between the IND and IRT tracks.   
      
   I favored 207th St. yards then down the 1 to crossovers somewhere south   
   of Times Square, then the uptown local track to north of the station, and   
   backing onto the shuttle tracks.   
      
   But since it was on the south track, he preferred going down to South Ferry,   
   switching to the inner loop, then up to below Grand Central Station and up   
   the downtown local to the switch onto the shuttle. (Which I suppose is the   
   oldest bit of out-of-service original 1904 trackway that's still occasionally   
   used.)
