When you       accelerate hard there's likely to be unburned fuel in the exhaust.       Also, unless you have a hybrid there's no regnerative braking so when       you slow down all the energy is wasted as heat.              On the other hand for electric trains it seems unlikely there would be       unburned electrons no matter what.
