   I would guess that now that the cost of CCTV cameras and monitors has declined   
   while the quality and reliability has gone up, it would be cost effective to   
   install cameras and monitors along platforms.  This certainly wouldn't be a   
   trivial task, given    
   the hostility of the subway-elevated environment, but I think today it could   
   be done effectively and reliably.
