|    Command Center console at NYTM    |

One of the BMT radio consoles formerly used at Command Center is       on display at NYTM, Brooklyn. It was part of the "crisis" exhibit.              Each radio channel key has a bunch of colored indicator lamps associated       with it. There are also keys marked "voting mute", whatever that means.              I think when a motorman made a radio call, the cosnole sensed it       and seized a channel and lit a lamp for the dispatcher to answer.       Anyone know how the radios worked?              Some channels had a single key, but most had two keys. The keys       themselves may have lit up when in use.              There were "all call" keys.              There was a larger key marked 'transmit'. Originaly painted in red, all       the paint was worn off.              I believe the system was installed circa 1967. Before that, crews       had to climb down and use a wayside telephone. Now they use something       else.                     There is also a model 28 Teletype, used for messaging to the bus garages.              Downstairs, car #8013 is on display.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
