I am looking across the tracks at the subway walls and they are encrusted with   
   filth. They look like they have not been cleaned and washed in years if not   
   decades.   
   We New Yorkers are used to filth but think of the impression this must make on   
   visitors.   
   It could not cost that much to give the subway walls a good scrubbing every   
   year or two.
