   Really? I'm a Christian. And I beleive the earth is 4.5 billion years old.   
   And I am finding more and more people agree with old earth. I had a   
   conversation with a Baptist preacher once after hearing someone mention   
   "the earth is 7000 years old". I was quite respetful and said that I am   
   teaching my children thast the earth was 4.5 milllion years old based on   
   the science since science is also a creation of God and he would not   
   mislead us. And that I hoped it would not be a problem. He acknowledged   
   that he was an old earth person, too, as was the assistant paster. We   
   discussed intelligent design and I was pleased to see we were on the same   
   page.   
      
   Put simply, science is how we mortals are able to understand our world.   
   There is no magic or voodoo to it. The earth has to be the way it is to   
   sustain human life. So it is. And the science provides a rational   
   structure.   
      
   God does not intervene because WE are responsible for our actions. If he   
   were to manipulate us, then we would just be puppets. He does not reveal   
   himself in grand miracles, for if He did there would be no doubt and Faith   
   would be unnecessary. But the evidence is all around you, if you know how   
   to see it.
