Was that true?              After the MTA took over control of SIRT, the 1920s rolling stock       was in bad shape. As a temporary fix, the MTA borrowed a few       old LIRR MU cars. But the real solution was the acquisition of the       special R-44 fleet.              Years ago, SIRT had conductors collecting tickets just like any       railroad. Then the MTA converted it to MetroCard, but only at the       two inner stations.
