   Given the Republican Party's long hatred of Amtrak and passenger   
   rail, you can expect more cutbacks on Amtrak and regional rail,   
   despite campaign promises.   
      
   FWIW, it was just reported that Amtrak set another ridership and   
   revenue record, and has a very high cost recover ratio for   
   direct costs (about 90% now, IIRC).  The freight railroads never   
   did nearly as well recovering direct costs in the 1960s, especially   
   after they lost postal contracts.
