Lots of luck       > in that happening in this Administration.              According to Fred Frailey's excellent "Twilight of the Passenger       Train", the consolidations at the end to save money created a       very unwieldy and unreliable train.              Some trains used to be 16-20 cars long. Too long. For one       thing, station stops were too long as (1) the train had to       double or even trip stop and (2) it was confusing for passengers       on getting to the proper car. In addition, very long trains       had higher risk of breakdown. Third, common spaces like the       diner were too crowded.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
