Acelas run between NYP-WAS in 3 hours, regular trains in 3:30. Where
does 10 hours of travel come from?

You can leave Penn station at 7 AM, get to Union Station at 10 AM, do
six hours of business, get the 5:50 PM return train back and be back
at Penn Station at 8:50 PM. It's a longish day but entirely doable,
   and better than staying overnight.
