   Sort of - Miss Subways 1948 was Thelma Porter, the first black Miss   
   Subways.  She was a student at Brooklyn College and at the time was   
   the dental secretary for my family's dentist.  She achieved a notable   
   career as a housewife, which at the time was a respectable career   
   path.
