   You pay at the end of the month, not when you use the service.    
   When I take the NJT bus into the city, I use the ticket I buy from    
   the machine in the PABT. (After covid, there isn't a limit of 9 tickets    
   per transaction.)   
      
   The last time I put money on my MetroCard, it was just before the    
   discount was reduced, so my money goes farther than it would have    
   if I had waited a few weeks.

   But I paid less than $1.35 for that ride, a while back (before covid,    
   of course).   
      
   It's not like the bank is paying me interest for keeping my money    
   in a checking or savings account.
