   Depends, was the first stab the fatal blow or the 40th?  Likely inbetween.   
   Say the 22 year old was packing, pulled it out and shot the attacker dead

   Getting a firearm legally, PITA.  Getting one illegally, piece of cake.  But   
   not going to try it.  Maybe the legal way.
