   Prostate cancer a couple of years ago, leading to metastatic liver cancer.   
      
   One analogy for prostate cancer I read went something like:  there are three   
   creatures in a barnyard, a tortoise, a horse and a crow ... one of them is   
   prostate cancer, and closing the gate to stop them leaving represents   
   aggressive treatment ... if the tortoise is cancer, you're wasting your time   
   with the gate because something else will kill you long before it can leave   
   ... if the crow is cancer, you're wasting your time with the gate, because   
   you're going to die anyway, and all the treatment can do is make your last   
   days more miserable ... if the horse is cancer, then shut the gate ... but   
   figuring out which creature was cancer was the tricky part.
