XPost: can.politics, tor.general, ott.general       From: Panca@nyet.ca              QMI Agency - Monday, December 15, 2014              Crown appeals 'unfit' robocall sentence                     OTTAWA - Federal prosecutors are seeking harsher punishment for convicted       robocaller and former Tory staffer Michael Sona.              The Crown said Monday they are appealing Sona's nine-month sentence "on the       basis that the sentence imposed by the trial judge was demonstrably unfit and       fails to reflect the gravity of the offence."              Sona was convicted in August of "wilfully preventing" voters in Guelph, Ont.,       from voting in the 2011 federal election by sending recorded robocalls to       hundreds of voters, directing them to wrong polling stations.              Though Sona was the only person charged with the crime, the trial judge       suggested he may have been helped by others.              Sona, who is considering appealing his conviction, has maintained his innocence       throughout and suggests he has been scapegoated by senior Conservatives.              Sona was granted bail Dec. 1 after applying to appeal his conviction and       sentence.              At the time, Judge Harry LaForme said Sona deserved to have the "opportunity to       have this court consider the fitness of his sentence before he is required to       serve it."              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
