|    When foreign companies give ultimatums t    |
|    10 Apr 18 16:03:57    |
. . . . Those would be the governments we elected to serve *our* best       interests.       And those foreign companies are strictly there to serve the financial       interests of shareholders.              The governments involved in this particular dispute are: British Columbia,       various BC cities, Alberta and the Trudeau government in Ottawa.              The foreign company is Kinder Morgan, a Texas-based American oil company which       has such shareholders as Enron, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Kohlberg       Kravis and Blackstone. All who have notorious histories all their own.              And Kinder Morgan has just sent our federal government - that would be Justin       Trudeau in this case - an ultimatum: give us assurance that no one will stand       in our way in building the expanded pipelines from Alberta's tar sands to city       of Burnaby in        British Columbia.              Are we worried yet? Not just about this particular ultimatum-shoveling       American big oil company, but about what our current and future 'trade'       agreements contain as they are being promoted by our own governments. NAFTA       has allowed this travesty. We        need to regain our sovereignty.              ______________________________       The Canadian Press - April 10, 2018 4:54 pm              Alberta prepared to buy Trans Mountain pipeline outright, Notley says              Alberta Premier Rachel Notley says the province will buy the Trans Mountain       oil pipeline project if that’s what it takes to get it built.              “We are considering a number of financial options to ensure that the Trans       Mountain expansion is built, up to and including purchasing the pipeline       outright if were to come to that,” Notley said in the statement Tuesday.       “But it is not the only        model we’re considering.              Notley said on the weekend that the province was looking at taking an equity       stake in the line, but didn’t talk about buying it completely.              In B.C. Tuesday, Premier John Horgan said Alberta can do what it wants within       the province’s own boundaries.              “The premier of Alberta is entitled to do whatever she wants within her       borders,” said Horgan. “If she wants to invest in a pipeline, that’s her       business.              “(This) is a good idea if there’s a proper return on investment for       Albertans,” said Rick Fraser of the Alberta Party.              “The problem is we have no idea what the final price tag of that project is.       How can your government commit to buying this pipeline when you don’t know       the full cost?”              “What we know is tens of thousands of jobs and millions of dollars are at       stake if this project does not go forward,” Hoffman replied.              Notley has said the pipeline is critical to helping Canada’s economy.       Alberta’s oil is fetching a discounted price in North America due to       pipeline bottlenecks, among other factors.              Alberta also says it can get a better price for its product if it can get more       of it to the coast and then on to overseas markets.       ____________________________              If proposed pipeline fails, Kinder Morgan could take Canada to court       U.S. company could launch a NAFTA claim seeking billions of dollars              http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/nafta-tmx-kinder-morgan-oilsands-1.4611434              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
