|    Thanks for voting 'No', Calgary    |

All Games - no matter where they're held in Canada, will ask that ALL       Canadians from all provinces help to pay for them.               Calgary's NO vote saved us all some major money. Hell, that's oil county -       rich and fat and arrogant about it. Let them fund their own Games any time       they vote to have them.        ____________________________       Calgary Herald - November 14, 2018              'No surprise' Calgary voted No to 2026 Games: International Olympic Committee              The vote "comes as no surprise following the political discussions and       uncertainties right up until the last few days," an IOC spokesperson said.              More than 300,000 ballots were cast on whether Calgarians wanted to host the       2026 Olympic Winter Games, with 56.4 per cent voting not to continue chasing       Olympic gold.              In a statement, the International Olympic Committee said its focus is now       finding “the best possible host” for the 2026 Games and bid books from       Italy and Sweden.              “The IOC takes note of the decision regarding the candidature of Calgary for       the Olympic Winter Games 2026,” an IOC spokesman said. “It comes as no       surprise following the political discussions and uncertainties right up until       the last few days.”              The results of Tuesday’s vote are non-binding and city council still needs       to formally vote to scrap the bid.              But the provincial and federal governments were clear their financial support       of the Games was contingent upon the endorsement of Calgarians in a public       vote.              Alberta Culture and Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda said Edmonton will honour       the plebiscite results and withdraw the $700 million the province offered to       contribute.              Miranda said he heard concerns from constituents who feared Olympic spending       “would divert funding” from front-line services, adding the province will       “not sacrifice any other projects that were already approved or were       potentially being approved.                     The No vote also means more than $1.4 billion in federal funds is also off the       table.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
