From: brewnoser2@gmail.com              CTV News Toronto November 25, 2020              Homicide detectives have a ‘person of interest’ in the Barry and Honey       Sherman murder investigation                     TORONTO -- A person of interest has been identified in the murders of       billionaire couple Barry and Honey Sherman, the Toronto Police Service       confirmed to CTV News Toronto on Wednesday.              “The Toronto Police Service can confirm that a person of interest has been       identified but not arrested,” Const. Alex Li said in a statement.              No further details have been released by officials at this time.              The well-known couple was last seen alive on the evening of Dec. 13, 2017.              Their bodies were found by realtors touring prospective buyers through their       Toronto home, located on Old Colony Road, two days later. They were found in a       semi-seated position on the pool deck, hanging by belts from a railing that       surrounded their        indoor pool.              The home has since been demolished at the family’s request.              Police sources initially said the prevalent theory in the case was that it was       a murder-suicide. But, about six weeks after their bodies were found, homicide       detectives confirmed they believed the couple was targeted and killed.              The Sherman family hired a team of private investigators to probe the murders.              On Dec. 16, 2019, the Toronto police and the family released a joint statement       saying the private investigation was over. At a news conference held that day,       the head of Toronto’s homicide unit Insp. Hank Idsinga reminded the public       that the police        investigation remained active and asked that anyone with any tips reach out to       them directly.              No arrests have been made in the high-profile case thus far.              Barry Sherman was the founder of generic drugmaker Apotex Inc. The couple was       among Canada’s most generous philanthropists with numerous mul       imillion-dollar donations to hospitals, schools and charities.              The couple’s Toronto home was on the market for $6.9 million at the time of       their deaths. They were in the process of building a new home in the city.       ___________________________________       It was obviously a hit job - and likely a very, very pricey one - for the       police to have taken this long.              These are the most likely suspects:       _______________              Possible suspects              No suspects or persons of interest have as yet been publicly identified. That       has not stopped speculation about who might have been responsible,       particularly given Sherman's many business associates with criminal records       and those who had been angered by        his actions. He himself had acknowledged that an attempt could be made on his       life. "For a thousand bucks paid to the right person, you can probably get       someone killed", he told Jeffrey Robinson in an interview for his book in the       late 1990s. "Perhaps I'       m surprised that hasn't happened."[23]              At the time of the homicides Sherman had just won a ruling that the Winters       owed him $300,000 in legal fees, less than he had asked for, for their       lawsuit, itself dismissed three months earlier. After telling Bloomberg that       he'd been informed he was a "       prime suspect" and consulting with his lawyer, Kerry Winter allowed that he       had not only the motive to kill his cousin but the opportunity, since he was       working at the time as a construction supervisor and could set his own       hours.[17] He admitted to The        Fifth Estate that he had imagined killing Sherman but says that he did not,       and was watching Peaky Blinders on Netflix, then attending a Cocaine Anonymous       meeting that night.[23][a]              Also mentioned as possibly having a motive to kill Sherman is Frank D'Angelo,       given the long history between the two and the latter man's checkered legal       history. In his interview with Bloomberg, he said "The worst thing that could       have happened to Frank        D'Angelo is Barry dying" and expressed regret that he had not been able to       save a man he regarded as a close friend. He believed that "somebody came to       make Barry an offer he couldn't refuse, and he refused".[17]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
