I just use my BBS.

Mystic has a built in fido mailer/tosser.  It simply just runs the command. 
We get them in via fileechos.  When I needed the feature I was troubleshooting
something... admittedly its rarely used day to day.  All of that stuff is
automated.

In this case its just MPL ...the internal scripting language of Mystic BBS.

To each is own I guess..  its built in to every distro pretty much.
