      XPost: phl.media              Appearing at the August _Philadelphia Fantastic_,              Victoria McManus and Tom Purdom              The Philadelphia Fantastic Authors and Editors Series        invite you to join us        and meet authors Victoria McManus and Tom Purdom,        reading from their work.              The time is Friday, August 26, 2005,        at 7:30 PM,        the place is Barnes and Noble Booksellers,        1805 Walnut St., Philadelphia, PA.                     Victoria McManus, assistant editor for Read,        majored in classical and Near Eastern archaeology        as an undergraduate        and completed her master's degree in anthropology,        all of which has turned out to be extremely useful        for writing sf and fantasy.              She serves as a reviewer for sfrevu.com.        Her other nonfiction includes interviews        with authors Gregory Frost and Ann Tonsor Zeddies        for Strange Horizons.              She has published a media tie-in story        as well as science fiction.       She will be reading from a work with an adult theme,        so leave the kiddies at home for this event.                     Tom Purdom's fiction spans a career        which started with "Grieve for the Man",        published in the August, 1957 issue of Fantastic Universe        and continues as strong as ever to the present day.              His short fiction has appeared in Asimov's, Analog,        The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Galaxy,        Amazing and various anthologies.              His novels, _I Want The Stars_, _The Treelord of Imeten_,        _Five Against Arlane_ and _The Barons of Behavior_        appeared under the Ace imprint        and _Reduction in Arms_ under the Berkley imprint.              Tom edited one anthology, "Adventures in Discovery"        a collection of specially commissioned articles on science        by Asimov, Silverberg, Anderson        and other leading science fiction writers.              His nonfiction has appeared in Worlds of Tomorrow, Kiwanis,        American Education, American Libraries        and The Philadelphia Inquirer.              His music criticism has appeared in The Welcomat,        other Philadelphia weeklies, Seven Arts,        Culturefinder, a national on line guide        and a regional guide on CitySearch.              He was recently honored        as the Special Guest at the 2004 Philcon.                     PHILADELPHIA FANTASTIC              Philadelphia Fantastic presents a series        of readings and informal discussions        by and with        local and regional writers and editors of speculative fiction        on the fourth Friday of the month.              In September, we will feature Judith Berman.              For further information about        the Philadelphia Fantastic reading series,        contact Oz Fontecchio - OFontecchi@aol.com        for news of upcoming events.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
