|    We must do more for air pollution now    |

XPost: phl.bicycles, pa.politics, ny.general       From: mcsnospam@yahoo.com               That was somewhat hyperbole. However, you should not take any one study       > at face value. There are, for example, lots of published studies which       > indicate no link between smoking and mortality. Would you believe them?       > As a debating point, hollering about "studies" is meaningless.        David,        You call it arguing , I call it , making someone aware.        True anyone can fund a study and make it turn out the way they want by       carefully wording, or controlling the text and the way the criteria and       experiment situations are conducted, however one can usually find the real       truth by looking at who created the study, paid for the study and the       obvious intent compared to the reality of overall situation . I think its       fair to suggest that when studies come out to protect people , its rarely       because they are protecting a trillion dollar industry such as smoking or       coal production .One can look at the way drug companies are targeting       people, the population health statistics and other obvious effects from bad       air to get a better objective indication of truth. Considering the media       hardly makes anyone aware of the newer studies and considering how so few       stations even mention the quality of the air and in fact people at the       station call many days with moderate air quality , "BEAUTIFUL" , one can       easily objectively state, there is no real concern to tell the truth ,if       there is no monetary reward for doing so. Its much more then that, since       there might be an actual decrease in viewers if stations tell the truth,       what's not said is often better then what is said. This is sad because       people who live in those towns will die an excruciating death only because       the news media chose to ignore the recent studies and drug companies       targeting of its citizens and the reasons for it. If one can eventually sue       the TV stations and news media for doing a lousy job of informing its       viewers when dangerous conditions existed, (more evidence is coming in to       suggest that there is a connection between pollution and health over long       periods), then maybe more people might be ready to do more to fight the       conditions that caused it. When more and more people saw the connections of       smoking more people were able to stop smoking. Living in polluted air should       not be addictive and should be easy to help change , but we have to be aware       of the situation first.Doing the right thing from the start will benefit       everyone in the long run, making the air cleaner and thus people not wanting       to move or feel insecure about their future health. Having better health       will ultimately make our country and people and their resources they produce       stronger.Hiding the information will only delay the real implications of our       life, it will only try to delay what will eventually have to be done , make       millions of our families deathly ill and suffer, and put a drain on       insurance and budget because some idiot chose a policy thinking its best to       deal with reality by lying or ignoring the real problems we face. We are       stronger , much stronger as a people , and as a world when people can       maximize their potential and overcome their problems by analyzing the       solutions and working on solving them honestly and living in a healthy       environment. Every break down of ignoring our health, ignoring the       implications to good health or that which is important , makes everything       else bad, that more likely to happen , like a chain leading to disaster .It       may be just one small link but we must learn to foster the right things and       links in making a difference in our lives. Don't ignore what is going on ! .                     > > You see how many ads are targeted to       > > people in this region for asthma -allergies? You think they do it       because       > > people think they are sick?       >       > Of course it has nothing to do with selling drugs.       >       > > It was better before? What part of more coal       > > production and more particulate don't you understand.?       >       > What I did say was that it is worse now than a few years ago, but if you       > look back further it was much worse than today.              David if it was much worse : MAYBE , it was only because it was so bad ,       people didn't have to wait a few decades to see the effect, that doesn't       mean it something we shouldn't be working on right now to change. We have       more information now to make a difference sooner . Maybe one can suggest all       the SUVs and increase of cars and population and increasing our coal       production and increase in road pollution and the better studies are       indicative of a future that is just as worse as what was. To suggest what       was worse at this point while many people need more drugs for their       conditions is not going to cut it. It seems like either situation is bad ,       very bad and we must start to do something now.       >       > >              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
