   There is a recent book about late 19th century Chicago.   
   Unfortunately I don't remember the title and author.   
   But I do remember that in a review of it it stated   
   that in one particular year there were *800* murders in Chicago.   
   This was in the 1890s.   
      
   While I grieve over the violence in our modern society, the   
   point I'm trying to make is violence and murder have been   
   here in this country, in large numbers, for a long, long   
   time. You imply that it's something new; it isn't.
