Filthy rich bastards!              It not so much a matter of being rich as it is being ridiculously out of       proportion to the salaries of the private sector in this region...              Most college graduates won't see an offer to start in this area anywhere       close to that, not even those with highly sought after computer and       technical degrees. Heck, IT professionals with a decade of experience       barely make more around here.              My brother had an accounting degree from a top school and his wife a       degree in computer science, they wanted to stay in Pittsburgh and got       several job offers each, none of which exceed $25k a year to start.       Meanwhile they had no trouble what so ever getting offers in the mid and       high 40s in Maryland, Virginia, New York and Ohio.              That's why this region is in such dire straights, making change and       taking tickets for the state or any other low/no skill job gets you a       $30k starting salary, while a valued college degree gets you $25k or less...              Only it doesn't really because less than 5% of college graduates accept       those ridiculous offers and leave for more and better opportunities just       a few hours in any direction.              In the coming decades it will be "funny" watching the various levels of       government try to figure out who and how to tax when the only people       left are over 65 or those working for the government.              Paul Galvanek - Ver. 4.01              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
