XPost: alt.politics, ny.politics, ny.general       XPost: phl.media       From: jim@-nospam-orfanakos.com              Why would any state / city / county put an illegal in jail - and pay for       meals and housing, when they can simply turn them over to INS and get them       deported? It does not make sense. I suspect in cases of heinous crimes -       "justice" may be served by punishing the person who did the crime -       regardless of their immigration status.              Question: Which job(s) did the illegal take? White collar jobs? Blue       collar jobs? or the jobs that no one is willing to take? the really crappy       manual labor jobs? On the other hand - I will acknowledge that they could       be taking jobs for less, without paying taxes or social security, so an       unethical employer can make more money by hiring illegal workers. So I       guess the real question is it the illegal, or the person / company who hires       illegal the problem? If no one hired illegal workers - then there would be       no inceptive for an illegal worker to come here. I am sure there is a       computer programmer out of work that could pick up a job elsewhere - out of       his field if he / she really wanted to...yes perhaps at less pay - and then       we would not need to hire illegal.              Your argument about making illegal - legal - drawing more illegal is flawed.       Once they are legal - they are now paying taxes, social security, etc..and       no longer attractive to the people hiring illegal. Thus illegal would lose       their jobs, become unemployed ... hence there is no incentive to be legal.              In Media, PA tonight - 75 people became US Citizens. Does that mean these       people took away / have been taking away 75 jobs from unemployed Americans?       Would you advocate that we stop all immigration to the US until we train,       re-tool and employ every person in the US who is out of work and wants to       work? If so - at whose cost? Taxpayers? I repeat - I am sure there is a       computer programmer out of work that could pick up a job elsewhere - out of       his field if he / she really wanted to...yes perhaps at less pay - and then       we would not need to hire illegal.       --              To reply via e-mail, remove the "-nospam-" from the reply to address       "mcs" |
