XPost: phl.media, phl.misc, pa.politics       From: mcsnospam@yahoo.com              Lets see the reduction of crime and the savings will mount. Our nation can       send people to the moon and billions for Iraq and to Soviet Union to stop       them from selling nuclear weapons they made, but we can't find a way to stop       our obsession on crime everywhere. So are you suggesting the costs to fight       crime would be more then they are now? If we put up more cameras and made       more jail cells? I think at some point , when word got out that there was       an actual deterrent to violent crime and it didnt include computers ,       stereos, and hours in the gym , and cigs, then maybe we tried to do       something . I think the costs to society , or our society would be nothing       compared to benefits. If we had a pre school program or on going grade       school program to find kids at risk and make a special effort to find       adoptive homes if their parents are not there , or classes which instill       self confidence and support and even telling the kids why they need that       support then we make some inroads. If we have an ethics class for everyone       about the dangers of crime and drugs and about people acting out if they       don't get the care they need , then we can at least expect people to know       the laws before they break them. I tell you the truth , I had a friend in a       suburban school whose friends smoked grass each day. They were never told       smoking grass was not good for them believe it or not. . Anyway       "Jeff nor Lisa" |
