You said, It's ludicrous to think that time spent in prison under horrible
conditions will lessen the crime rate, or indeed do anything for the
   society.
I totally disagree with you.. First off I am talking the consequences of a
murder or a life sentence which in our society should be life . They want to
go to school fine. They want to show they can become PHd candidates, fine
maybe we can make some exceptions , but the majority of people who kill
should not get any perks. You think its horrible conditions, but thats the
point in having a deterrent . The point is we need to go out big time to
stop this non stop threat to human life that makes us look like hypocrites
to other nations and rightly so and forces families to feel the pain of a
loss of loved one over and over. They don't get a voice . They don't get to
go to school. Its time we start making jail a real bad ass place to be.. The
belief criminals have that they can get away with murder or that they might
die by execution and won't serve a long prison is not exactly cutting down
on the violence. The belief that some criminals end up teaching other
criminals the ropes or working out in gyms listening to raido has got to
end. Truly its our job to make jail such a deterrent that people actually
talk about how horrible it is. Man wouldn't that be something! I am not for
caring how bad it is because until there are no perks , we can't judge the
reaction to crime statistics without that bare walls policy taking effect so
how can you conclude something like that wouldn't make an impact if that
didn't happen yet.? Again I am talking this approach only for people
convicted of very violent crime sentenced to life. Its totally amazing how
people care about criminals and not say a word about the defenseless people
   murdered everyday, totally mind boggling.
