Intranet Telephone Network for BBSes Around the Globe!
            ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
                             ³ __ ³I am thril
led to introduce our ambitious project: creating
³ (_ \ ³an intranet telephone network dedicated
 to BBSes worldwide! ³ ³ ³ ³
                                                                  ³ ³ ³
³Here's our vision: Initially,
we want to offer telephone ³ _³ ³ ³ex
tensions to BBS owners as well as to their modems.
Each ³ (__/ ³participant will
be able to obtain two extension numbers: ³
³one for their telephone and another for their mo
dem. For those ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙwho
have multiple modems, we will accomodate them without any
issue. Ourserver configuration has been car
efully designed to prioritize telephonemodems.
Users are at the heart of our project and will benefit from a
telephone extension and a modem extension if they wish. Our
team, althoughsmall, is ready to prov
ide the necessary assistance for setting up your SIP
devices. Personally, I use Grand
Stream HT802, HT818, and
GRP2602 models. Wewill also se
t up an intranet accessible to members, including phone n
umbers ofthose who wish to share them on the Phone
NET network, as well as BBS numbers
.Access to the list of Phone
NET members' phone numbers will be restricted to
members only. It will be impossible for outsiders to view t
he list or call aPhoneNET number.
Our goal is to enable, for example, s
omeone in New Zealandto call someone in
Toronto, Canada, or to communicate wi
th a BBS located onthe other side of the planet to p
lay Doors games or synchronize two BBSes via
modem for fun.In the face of ubiquitous
Internet and the exorbitant rates charged by phoneco
mpanies, we aim to offer a fun and historical alternative
. The goal is torevive a part of computing
history while enjoying ourselves.In
a second phase, we plan to expand the possibilities by all
owing members tomake calls to external line, such
as cell phones and landlines. This phasewi
ll be launched once the first phase is operational and we have enough
members to support it. The more participants we have
, the faster thedevelopment will progress.
However, it is essential to cover the costsas
sociated with setting up servers, electricity consumption
, internet access,etc. C
urrently, the cost to join PhoneNet is
 (1$ USDC) per month perexten
sion number. We hope this will cover expenses once w
e have a sufficientnumber of members.
We are actively working on phase two, which will allo
w members to make callsoutside the network. I
t is expected that this service will be moreexpensive
, and its rollout will be gradual, targeting in
terested members. The name Phone
NET v2.0 pays homage to Apple
, which created a network betweenMac
Classic computers using phone lines. We are cont
inuing this traditionmany years later.
For now, this message is being shared on Fido
Net 1:*... and as interestgrows
, we will provide updates on the project's prog
ress. We hope to build awonderful network o
f telephony and modems at 33600 bps and beyond.
I apologize if some find the use of French problema
tic. I use this languagebecause it the one
I am most comfortable with. Translating doc
uments intoEnglish using ChatGPT or
Google Translator takes a significant amont of time
,which I prefer to dedicate to advancing
the project. This work is donevoluntarily f
or the computing BBS communities, and we aim to e
njoy theprocess while keeping interested parties informed
. The "PhoneNET [F
r+En]"discussion forum reflec
ts our intention to provide information in Frenchwhi
le being ready to translate documents for those who need them.
We are currently a small team of two and a half.
I dedicate a lot of time tothis project,
while my colleague Bouzzi, our Englis
h expert, contributes whenhe can due to his profe
ssional commitments. We also have a Padawan
intraining, and we are hopeful for the future of
the next generation.Thank you for y
our support and interest. We look forward to develo
ping thisexiting network!
