   I visited Portland a few years back.  Several in our party decided to take   
   light rail downtown for some shopping and sightseeing.  It seemed a good   
   idea for those not familiar with local streets.  The only problem was their   
   inability to do so.  They found that the parking lots at outlying light rail   
   staions are chock full by 7 AM.  No nearby street parking is allowed.   
      
   Station parking is free, whereas downtown parking is costly.   
      
   Guess who light rail was built for....
