   You are correct that they are fools but they are not shortsighted.   
   They know that to ensure the "success" of LR they MUST kill all   
   competing transportation modes to whatever extent they can. That is   
   why they ALWAYS degrade the bus service - to force those happy bus   
   users on to LR. And they always fight the PEOPLE'S CHOICE of the more   
   cost effective expansion of highway lanes because congestion is teh   
   FRIEND of LR. They WANT congestion. As I have asked the LR   
   supporters MANY times, "Show me a city who said they had a congestion   
   problem and that solved it with LR." and the LR supporters always run   
   away, as X did, with their tails between their legs. So they are not   
   shortsighted, they are looking out for their own interest and   
   correctly seeing that to ensure the long term survival of LR they MUST   
   prevent other, more cost effective solutions from succeeding,   
   particularly Rapid Bus Transit.
