XPost: ba.politics, dc.media, soc.penpals       XPost: alt.burningman       From: msnbchomo@espn.com              Ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is making her first       Northwest appearance in several years next Thursday before the       Vancouver Board of Trade, a paying gig in the $200,000 range.       Nice work if you can get it.              But the Democrats’ 2016 presidential frontrunner is shutting out       all media coverage of the B.C. event. An e-mail Friday from Greg       Hockstra of the Board of Trade, addressed to Vancouver       journalist Craig McCulloch, said:              “Hillary Clinton’s office has advised us that there will be no       media accreditation or special media access for this speech. As       part of our contract with her office, this will be a private       speaking engagement. There will also not be any streaming of the       speech.              “I can add you to our distribution list for upcoming media       advisories.”              The blackout is not without precedent. In 2012, Republican       presidential candidate Mitt Romney made a fundraising foray       into Portland and Seattle (well, actually, Medina) that the       candidate’s staff did not announce and refused even to confirm.              President Obama’s last four visits to the Seattle area have been       “dash for cash” events, with the President speaking only before       big donors. The tab in November’s visit as $16,200. But two       Seattle pool reporters were allowed into Jon Shirley’s art-       filled Medina mansion to hear Obama’s stump speech (but not to       hear Obama take questions, or to ask any.)              Bill Clinton’s last Board of Trade appearance in 2010 — the ex-       President fielded questions from former British Columbia finance       minister Carole Taylor — was open to media coverage. So was his       previous six figure gig three years earlier.              Repeated efforts by seattlepi.com to contact Hillary Clinton’s       office about the Vancouver speech have received no reply.              The ex-Secretary of State may be keeping a low profile until her       memoirs are published. She can then profit from media coverage       to make book sales.              http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/2014/02/28/hillary-       clinton-to-nw-media-go-to-hell/                             --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
