I realized "ISP" modem/router after I sent the message. I still don't really think of the DSL or cable devices as modems when the term modem is used all by itself in a sentence. For me, when *just* saying "modem", it's the box that connects an anolog POTS line to a computer. However, in context it would be obvious that it could also be the dsl or cable or fibe variety. However, I *do* have at least one old damaged "isp"/dsl modem to the pile. I don't know why I haven't thrown that out yet. I suppose your zyxel replacement was something provided under a warranty or the rental program? I have a dsl modem that has a broken port-forwarding function. It's programmable, but the results don't follow through. I've configured port-farwarding in a previous dsl modem so I know what I should expect. But this darn replacement that the ISP sent me several years ago does not cooperate. I have wondered if it's a simple matter to hot-swap an existing dsl/modem router with another one off-the-shelf. Many of the config options scare me. It does not seem as simple as configuring just a un and pw. -- ../|ug --- OpenXP 5.0.49 * Origin: The ONLY point that matters! --> . <-- (2:221/1.58) SEEN-BY: 1/123 80/1 90/1 105/81 120/340 123/131 129/305 203/0 221/1 SEEN-BY: 221/6 360 226/30 227/114 702 229/101 424 426 664 700 1016 SEEN-BY: 229/1017 240/5832 249/206 317 400 280/464 5003 282/1038 292/789 SEEN-BY: 292/854 8125 317/3 322/757 335/364 342/200 423/81 PATH: 221/1 292/854 229/426 |
