Denmark has announced that it will invest €18 billion in Greenland's
security. Madness! This is all a waste of money, because Greenland's security
won't improve. Invest it instead in the prosperity of the people there and
elsewhere. China and Russia aren't attacking Greenland and have no such
ambition. No Chinese military ships have been near Greenland in years. The
only threat to Greenland comes from the US itself.

Trump's view of 'Greenland's security' isn't going to change. After all, it
was never about security. It's simply that Trump wants to put his name to
something. Something they say: look, Trump managed to do that. Just like
everyone still knows which president managed to buy Alaska from the Russians.

That's how much something like that is ultimately worth... But tell Trump that.

In any case, we are heading for a war with the US, and Europe would do well to
prepare for it. 1. Stop buying American weapons and other goods.

2. Prepare for a ban on pension funds and mutual funds holding US Treasuries
and let them know in advance that this policy is coming. Then they can start
gradually reducing their positions.

3. Seek cooperation within Europe and beyond with Japan, China, Mexico,
Canada, Australia, and South Korea to act together and ban the dollar if the
US actually takes Greenland militarily.

4. Prepare legislation that prohibits Europeans from buying dollars if the US
takes Greenland. To hit the US stock markets, you could also consider imposing
a ban on investing in US securities. You can keep what you have, but you are
not allowed to take new positions. That would hit the US stock markets hard
and drive down stock prices sharply. In that case, many Americans would lose
their pensions.
