It's the opposite here. AT> The School Board here seems to be helpless to the Teachers Union. What a mess. I use to trust the system, not so much any more. Semester is ending and they had to cancel finals for this semester because of the strike. I don't care so much because this isn't Amanda's final year where she's looking to compete to get into college or whatever. I can see the boards efforts and the union thwarting those efforts. I'm voting for AI teachers any chance I get. AT> AT> Here in the states, I believe that the state has the authority to dictate AT> educational requirements like that. But in Canada, the national AT> government decides? AT> No, each province is separate each city might be as well... Edmonton school board runs Edmonton... and so on... I was originally from Ontario smaller town less that 100K... Kawartha Pine Ridge... it just includes the surrounding area. In the US they federalized things during the Carter admin. Seems Carter got into office with the help of teachers and now we have the American Federation of Teachers... and whatever... You don't need someone in Washington telling you what you need teach or do in Georgia. People, the government, should look at Alberta's worker geography. I do not know why they did this... BUT in Alberta there are 2 large cities Calgary and Edmonton. In Calgary all the head offices to the oil companies are there where as in Edmonton all the workers are based out of there. Calgary white collar whereas Edmonton is full of blue collar workers. I think the school systems should be geared up to make people productive. Edmonton should have shop classes the colleges should be geared up to educate people in meaningful trades that help society from the ground up. Whereas Calgary should have plans for their young people as well. NY has a different economy and demands than that of Wyoming and what not same as Alberta is to Ontario. School boards should be run by the districts they live in. They should be designed to make the people there meaningful contributers to society. Teachers Unions need to be smaller... Not like the US... Where the unions contribute millions in campaign contributions. You get the idea. WTF happened. Trump is trying to dismantle the Federal aspects to education, I hope he can do it. Each State needs to dictate their own standards. AT> AT> It sounds like they are out of control, in Canada. I don't blame the AT> teachers here in the states though. Most of them didn't sign up for this AT> sh!t. My son's teacher punished some kids for not standing for the AT> pledge of allegiance. I think that's cool as hell. AT> There are some differences between the 2 countries but I'm telling you in the West we are sucking everywhere... Europe... Everywhere... Except China, I hear they are doing well.
