I was watching this the other day. Quite impressive how theye pick the single length rail up and the machine puts down a tie then puts the rail in and ties it down. They still need to come through and guage the rail because it not totally straight but straight enough for the maching and a duel end loco to move over it. Got some pictures of that and aslo a P&W and Amtrak freight loco sitting south of the operation. >>> Double-track but not electrified... like the old Shore Line >>> East service, and about the same travel time from "Fairfield County >>> jobs". Even with 17 trains a day -- roughly one in each direction >>> every other hour -- it's hard to believe this will be tremendously >>> successful. Would be too expensive to electrify the rail form New Haven to Hartford or Springfied. They also don't have enought property in places and some overhead clearances are not enough. The wires go far enough back just to go to the State Street station and also to be able to stage trains or locmotivies for change out at Union Station. -=> Al Kaiser n1api@cox.net <=- That's all for now!
