|  Winter was awful for air travel, figures  |

The Phila Inqr reported that official USDOT figures show that US airlines cancelled 4.6 percent of their flights during the first three months of this year. This was mostly due to a viscious winter of continuing storms. full article at: http://www.philly.com/philly/business/transportation/20140514_Wi ter_was_awful_for_air_travel__figures_show.html The airlines say the rule limiting tarmac delays to three hours causes more cancellations. That seems strange. Three hours is a very long time as it it. We do have modern instaneous communication and computers to get the latest weather data, situation at other airports, etc. Part of the problem in air travel is that the airline industry has been concentrating flights to maximize seated loads, leaving no spare capacity. If a flight is cancelled, there aren't empty seats available on other flights. --- SoupGate/W32 v1.03 * Origin: LiveWire BBS -=*=- UseNet FTN Gateway (1:2320/1) |
