|  Latest estimate for Phila. airport expan  |
|  15 May 14 12:33:24  |
Some folks have been critical of Amtrak, saying it costs too much. But the latest estimate to expand a _single_ airport is now up to seven billion dollars. While the airlines will pay "much of which", taxpayers will pick up the rest. Also, many folks think Amtrak ought to be privatized, even though there is zero evidence to support that, and tons of evidence against it. Given the above, why can't the airlines own the airport like a Union Station, and handle the capital costs themselves, as they see fit to do? A report in the Phila Inqr describes the plans and costs: http://www.philly.com/philly/business/transportation/20140515_La est_estimate_for_Phila__airport_expansion___7_47B.html --- SoupGate/W32 v1.03 * Origin: LiveWire BBS -=*=- UseNet FTN Gateway (1:2320/1) |
