And Richard Nixon. Nixon was a terrible actor. Indeed, that was a contributor to his downfall, in that he thought he was -acting- 'presidential' when he gave speeches to the country, but the country saw through it. (Nixon did meet his wife Pat in a community theatre group. His granddaughter is an actress today.) As an aside, John Dean and others are running around giving speeches and touting new book they just wrote on Nixon and Watergate: (Dean was in Phila last night). http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/literature/20140731_F rty_years_past_Watergate__authors_add_to_Nixon-era_literature.html Nixon did start Amtrak. Didn't give very much funding--far less than it needed--but at least it was a start. DOT Secretary Volpe, a strong supporter of Amtrak, was crucified by other conservatives for doing so. --- SoupGate/W32 v1.03 * Origin: LiveWire BBS -=*=- UseNet FTN Gateway (1:2320/1) |
