Philadelphia officials patted themselves on the back when they reduced the
annual murder count from roughly 350 to 300.

However, they ignored that back in 1950, the annual murder acount was 127 with
a population of 2.1 million people, while today's 300 count is with a
population of 1.4 millon.  Further, that 2.1 million people in 1950 was
crammed into roughly half the 
area the city occupies today.

They also ignore that New York City drastically reduced its murder count from
the dark days of the 1970s and 1980s.  If NYC could do it, so could Phila if
they bothered to pay attention to what NYC and other places did.
