[Justice Quebec - Adult Criminal Justice Process]
mentions preliminary inquiries (also called preliminary hearings) for
serious indictable offences.

http://www.justice.gouv.qc.ca/english/publications/generale/pdf/processus-a.pdf
which includes "With a preliminary inquiry (only if requested by
either party)" in the route for serious indictable offences.
