I can tell you for a fact that I've been dripped on in the St. Louis
gallery cars; I assumed the Pullmans were pretty much the same design.

IC Highliners (gallery cars) had their full-across cabs on the main level.
The Nippon-Sharyo MU cars put two half cabs in the gallery, typical of
cab-control trailers since C&NW first ordered them in the early 1950's.
Or are you saying additional room is required for control equipment,
nothing to do with the cab?
