In South Shore books, there are a number of pictures of the station building, but it doesn't look very inviting--covered with security bars and looking like a police station or jail. Ugly concrete block. In some pictures of the waning days of the actual South Shore station, the neighborhood looks like it had seen better days. In google streetview today, the area looks deserted, with some buildings torn down, and others converted to social service uses. (Unfortunately, a lot of neighborhoods that were once served by a key streetcar or interurban terminal do not look very good today as compared to the 1950s, when they were commercially much more vibrant. Sad.) --- SoupGate/W32 v1.03 * Origin: LiveWire BBS -=*=- UseNet FTN Gateway (1:2320/1) |
