Yes.

True. However, the CPR rulebook I found online didn't make any
distinction between operating in the summer, winter, spring, fall - the
automatic brakes are supposed to be released when leaving the train. I
was trying to come up with ideas why the rule might have been written
that way, rather than saying why it might have been a good or bad idea
to apply the brakes in this particular case.
